Interesting Question. As you will see in all traditional Step testing with values and usage of the 2 or 4 mmol/L levels , or any other system with actual exact numbers, the tester would tell you to stop to drink Coffein 1 - 2 days before the test. High coffein content in your body will change the Lactate numbers.Plus it works like a diuretica. ( This is one of other reasons , why we developed our test system with using lactate trends and not actual lactate values.
Where is the reason for this different lactate values with or without coffein ?
Let's lock on cellular level.
Coffein is a competitive antagonist of the adenosin receptor and will increase the opening of the calcium chanals in the sarcoplasmatic reticulum. Sounds intelligent, but simply but down :
This will increase the FFA oxidation and therefor will help to safe intramuscular glycogen.resp. will inhibit partially this energy pathway, as in the oposite case ,lactate would inhibit the mobilistaion of lipolyses. That's one other reason why slow training has to be perhaps slower , than a lot of people think, to be sure we activate the STF FFA pathway.
That's why we use perhaps coffein to stimmulate weigth loss.( it also helps to increase secretion into the stomach. )
Coffein is on the IOC drug list with a limit of 12 mg/l
Summary : Yes lactate values will be altert by using coffein , with the tendency to be lower, despite the fact, that the HR goes higher by a given performance.
Using the FACT system you will still have your LBP on the same HR , but the overall lacate values are lower, which has no impact on the control of your training intensity.
