Hi Shane,
thanks for your questions.
Steve is a top coach and worth all his money. He is doing this for a living and is doing this well.
I'm caotic and without Herb we would not have anything in writing or softwear or any other orderly offered ideas. So I do it to get myself more confused.
To your question about , why cycling coaches do not yous Fartlek.
My guess is : Tradition , own sport , do not look sideways, I know everything already, why change , when we did it since 20 years already, I never did it during my active time , so why should I change.
Now finish fun I think you make a good point.
We use " Fartlek " under the name AA! , AA@ variation or random training., But I am not a cycling coach.
Here a short story about two athletes you may remember . Seb . Coe and your famous Said.
I worked at the altitude Center in St. Moritz , where both prepared for the Olympics in Seoul.
As you know the story , one of them won gold, the other missed the qualification in his country.
The Gold medal winner was in our center to ask for some advice for his 3 weeks in St. Moritz. Short story : first week come up with your family and enjoy liefe, play in the sand in the stadium for long jump.
The other was coming up with a whole team of doctors. . They knew what to do , eeven though that guy never ever did before an altitude training. After 3 days he was in our clinic with the firstv well known proble , and we try to tell him what may have happened.Problem was , his team had too many Ph D and they would not even listen.
Summary , we never stop to learn , even from people without a Ph D.
It always reminds me on my sons assignement.
If you can repeat it you have an education, if you can challange it you may have a brain.
