Great comments Chris...I guess that my assumption that fatigue must occur for adaptations is just that, an assumption since I have no proof...I suppose what I meant to say that the system you are targeting must be stressed (correct?)...the 3 hour thing I believe was just a number...it could very well be that my neuromuscular system would be stressed after 78 minutes and I should stop the session...I think that's why Juerg was looking for some simple markers or tests for fatigue...which makes sense, why continue a training session when a system is fatigued...would that be counter productive-yes?...but then you have to figure out what system will be stressed first and should you not target that system first in your training cycles...as far as periodization is concerned, I have done reading and I understand that to some degree you must train all systems throughout the year...but if you look at what kind of adaptations you want and the time course for these adaptations to occur and their half values, then you can plan out your training years accordingly starting with what?-structural adaptations, neural, metabolic???since there are different periodozation theories, it gives us room to philosophize...again...sorry chris, but I'm thinking on my feet and I hope i didn't make too many assumptions...
cheers
