This was posted on the wattage forum on 4th Jan 09 :-

"I've been looking in the archives for this, but couldn't find anything
on this.
I noticed that when it gets hard especially in clilmbs longer then 5
minutes, I shift automatically (whitin lower and upper limits) to a
cadence that is in harmaony with my breathing rate. ie left right
left while breathing in, right left right when breathing out. Or :
in-lrlr / out-lrlr etc...
I can not push more watts this way, but RPE at 95 or 100% FTP feels
more like RPE at Sweet Spot.

At a higher cadence then when climbing (>85) it becomes more difficult
to play this trick, except for indoor training (no fluctuation in
power can be the reason)

Perhaps it sounds stupid, but I played the drums for years, and that's
all about coordination left/right hands and feet.
When I learned a new difficult pattern, I began slowly and when it was
right I got speed up. While doing that sometimes I felt like a "flow"
in me, everything became clear and easy, everything seemed in harmony.

When climbing longer hills, I feel that rythm in me, I begin to feel
good even when it's hard. I just get pissed of when drinking because
it messes up the harmony, even for only 1 minute, but that minute
feels like hell.

Have some of you noticed this too, or is it just my mind, ready for psy...? "

I wonder what the reply will be from the forum?

Rob , this is a ctually a very interesting point he makes and yes it will be very interesting to see the respond on the Power Forum.
Here just a start or a question :
If he goes up the hill with a fixed wattage?
300 watt and it is getting steeper and he maintains the same wattage.
Why would it get harder as we learn from the power people that 300 watt is always 300 watt ?
Why does he feel "easier " if breathing one to one ?.
At a higher cadence < 85 he can't play that trick . Wonder while ???? smile
Starting slower than he is getting in that "flow " hmm I thought it does not matter how you go to 300 watt as it is anyway the same and you don't care about HR. ?
Let's see what they come up with as an explanation .
