I am a senior cross-country skier trying to compete at the highest level. Money is tight and must be used sparingly. Is the Spiro Tiger worth all the money? Will I notice any big improvements? or is it just another way to boost your confidence? |

It depends how seriously you take your sport. At the elite level a small percentage improvement is worth big money. You can expect a 3% improvement in performance (consistent with the research). Whether that is worth the money for you is your call. The neat thing about the Spriotiger is that it can be used for Intermittent Hypoxic training by adding a Sportstat pulse oximeter. This is worth another 3% improvement. Other Hypoxic training devices are much more expensive. Here is a good reference for Hypoxic training: http://www.nzmtc.com/INTERMITTEN_HYPOXIC_TRAINING.htm |

Thank you very much your comments and that article! It is more common now for ski races to be at higher elevations, due to the lack of snow any where else. Which makes it more difficult for eastern Canadian skiers, who normally train at lower altitudes, to compete with the westerner's and most Europeans. Maybe the Spiro Tiger with the Sportstat pulse oximeter will help us race well at higher altitudes? I am almost convinced. |
