Hello everyone...hope everything is well...I would love it if I could get some feedback on the following thoughts I've been having...I have a feeling that they are wrong but I don't have any information or research or anything for that matter to back me up...I was teaching my kinesiology class about motor units the other day and started thinking about some things...I then enlisted the help of a physics teacher for the equations I needed...now most of this is based on the idea that one would produce an equal force throughout the pedal stroke (which probably won't happen) but just bear with it... if I do a muscle tension/strength type of workout at 210W (my endurance ride power) but drop my cadence from 90 to 50 on .1725m cranks I then can calculate my instantaneous force output...then using this "force" I put it back into the equation that i used (left them at school) and use a cadence of 90 my new power output would be 370W...so basically if I maintain the force that I am producing at 50rpm but increase the cadence to 90rpm I end up producing 370W...now here's the part I'm looking for answers on...Motor Unit recruitment is based on force not speed...so if I have to produce the same force, just more often, will I be recruiting the same motor units at 210W 50rpm as 370W 90rpm...I really don't think so but don't know why...now I know neurally this might not be effective training because it is not similar to the cadance during racing...but maybe if the motor unit recruitment is similar and we are now recruiting more type II fibres due to the increase in force production, possibly we could see some metabolic changes/shifts in these motor units...let me know your opinions...
