* Lactate Pro is the only hand held lactate meter clinically validated for medical use. (Publication available at Pubmed)
* Lactate Pro is the only lactate meter that does not require costly control solutions. Meter function is controlled by the use of unique calibration and check strips.
* Lactate Pro is validated for Veterinary use. (Study conducted at University of Montreal, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine published in the Canadian Veterinary Journal,
Can Vet J 2007;48:283–288.)
*Lactate Pro is the meter used by every major National Team and Training Center in USA and Canada.

Blood Lactate measurement is used by sport scientists, coaches and athletes to accurately determine Heart Rate training zones, recovery and much more.  Lactate is a metabolic product that can be measured by taking a drop of blood at a finger tip the same way diabetics monitor their blood sugar level.  The blood lactate level increases with exercise intensity and shows clearly the transition from aerobic to anaerobic activity.  Since the measurement is completely individual it gives a precise method for testing and monitoring training intensity and recovery.  Blood Lactate testing is far more precise than the outdated and inaccurate method of using percentages of maximum heart rate to set training zones.  Because heart rate is an individual response, heart rate training zones need to be determined by measurement of physiological variables not set by mathematical formulas.  Furthermore, the relationship between exercise intensity and heart rate is different for different exercises, eg. heart rates for running will not be the same as heart rates for cycling for any given intensity.  Training programs should not be based on general heart rate guidelines rather they should be based on individual responses.  This can be achieved through lactate testing.  How much guesswork are you willing to involve in your training and how much time have you got to waste?  Do you want to make sure that what you do works optimally for you?  Do you want to make the most of the time that you have available?  Now you can optimize and take the guesswork out of your training by using the Lactate Pro.

The Lactate Pro is the meter of choice (world wide) of elite teams and sport scientists both for monitoring athlete training and for sport research.  In North America it is used heavily by the USA and Canadian National teams, sport scientists, coaches and athletes. It has been featured in "Runner's World Magazine", "Triathlete Magazine", NY Times "Play" Sports Magazine and on "The Lance Chronicles".

The Lactate Pro blood lactate analyzer is fully approved by the FDA and is the only blood lactate test system that is classified as a Waived test by CLIA. The Lactate Pro portable lactate analyzer is the only handheld lactate analyzer to be validated for medical use in the USA (extensive clinical trial was carried out at the Harvard Children's Hospital in Boston). The Lactate Pro blood lactate test clinical trial with GSD type I patients has been published in the Journal of Inherited Metabolic Disease. In addition, a summary of the article was published in the summer issues of both the US and UK Association for Glycogen Storage Disease newsletters. The publication states, "A total of 166 intravenous and 39 capillary samples from 13 subjects were tested concomitantly on three different lactate meters (3 different Lactate Pro meters). The meter readings were compared with the lactate concentration determined by the laboratory gold-standard enzymatic colorimetric assay. Almost no inter-meter variability was found. The lactate meter values had outstanding correlation with the laboratory lactate determination,.... The portable lactate meter is a highly accurate tool for monitoring lactate concentrations, and should prove valuable for monitoring metabolic control in patients....". (Pubmed)

Most popular Blood Lactate Analyzer in the world; over 15,000 delivered world wide.

"The accuracy and repeatability of measures (of the Lactate Pro) is as good as that of the YSI... The Accusport proved to be unreliable when compared to the YSI. The Accusport had several innate flaws that lent itself to inaccuracy. While the Accusport had a high correlation to the YSI on grouped data the machine had an unacceptably high error on individual data."
- Ed. McNeely, MSc., Rowing Canada.

"We have used other models in the past and prefer the Lactate Pro for it's accuracy, quickness in getting results, portability, price,... It's by far the best analyzer available."
- Alain Parent, Canadian National Cross Country Ski Team.

"We are half way through our training season, and have used the Lactate Pro analyzer since this Spring. I am very happy with the Lactate Pro. We are able to monitor the athletes very effectively with this instrument. Whether they are doing long endurance training, high intensity training, training at high altitude we can effectively measure the effort levels and give instant feedback to the athlete. Having the possibility to provide feedback within a minute is so much more valuable than feedback the next day as was the case in the past. The units are easy to use, accurate, and very convenient to work with. Certainly the Lactate Pro has been a very valuable addition to our program."
- Dave Wood, Head Coach, Canadian National Cross Country Ski Team.

"We are well-acquainted with the Lactate Pro. We see it in action often with our visiting international teams. It is a very impressive device."
- Sean Anthony, Program Coordinator of the High Altitude Sports Training Complex at Northern Arizona University.

"We are excited about using the Lactate Pro to monitor the training of elite athletes in our training groups."
- Ahvo Taipale, certified coach by the Finnish Ski Federation.

With only 5 microL of blood and simple operation,
Lactate Pro provides accurate blood lactate level in 60 seconds.

Lactate Pro adopts the electrochemical measurement method utilizing enzyme reaction.  The operation has been further simplified.  As little as 5 microL (approximately 2mm diameter drop) of blood is enough for a measurement.  Furthermore, the wiping of excess blood and other troublesome preparation are not required.  Measurements are completed in a mere 60 seconds.  The automatic aspiration of blood greatly reduces the risk of human error, and thus provides accurate blood lactate level without involving any manual operation.

FDA Approved, CLIA Waived

The Lactate Pro test system is the only Lactate measurement system to achieve Waived Status under the US FDA Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments.  In the regulations, waived tests are defined as simple laboratory examinations and procedures that are cleared by the Food and Drug Administration for home use; employ methodologies that are so simple and accurate as to render the likelihood of erroneous results negligible. (FDA-CLIA Listing)

The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) regulate all testing on specimens that are removed from the human body for US patients.  The Lactate Pro is categorized as a waived test under the CLIA.  Facilities that perform waived testing  must have a current CLIA certificate of waiver and follow the manufacturer's instructions for performing the test.  Waived tests do not have any CLIA personnel requirements nor are they inspected on a routine basis.

However, the Accusport is categorized as a moderately complex test under the CLIA regulations.  Moderate complexity CLIA tests are subject to standards for registration, proficiency testing [42 CFR 493. 801 through 493.865], patient test management [42 CFR 493.1101 through 493.1111], quality control [42 CFR 493.1201 through 492.1202], personnel [42 CFR 493.1403 through 493.1425], and quality assurance [42 CFR 493.1701 through 493.1721]. Facilities performing moderate complexity tests are surveyed every two years.  The minimum testing personnel qualification for a moderate complexity test is having earned a high school degree or equivalent.

There may also be State requirements that are applicable to laboratory testing in those States that have a separate State laboratory licensure program (i.e., California, Florida, etc.).

The CLIA regulations can be viewed from the following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

High data precision of C.V. 3% satisfies the need of clinical testing.

With the high repeatability of C.V. 3%, "Lactate Pro" is able to be used not only in physical training but is also useful for clinical testing.  Thus, "Lactate Pro" provides reliably precise data equivalent to that of large-scale testing equipment and also maintains good correlation with conventional lactate test meters.
